Installation of New Energy Efficient District Heating System

The tallest building in Hyde made a very public commitment to reducing greenhouse gases last weekend. A pod containing a fully fitted plant room was recently lifted by crane to the top of the 16-storey Chartist House.  Internal access restrictions meant the plant room could not be constructed on the roof so it was winched by crane over 160 feet to settle on a specially strengthened platform.

Belfry Group Limited, acting as Main Contractor have been tasked with the installation of a centralised heating plant, consisting of the highly efficient Buderus GB162 heating boilers housed within the custom made pod and a total of twenty roof solar panels which track the suns movement throughout the course of the day to ensure maximum efficiency.

The specially designed solar panels will preheat the water circulating to each of the Alfa Laval Mini City heating substations within each of the individual apartments (38 of which are sheltered housing) to reduce running costs still further.  This custom designed system will dramatically reduce CO2 emissions and give residents dramatically cheaper heating bills.

In addition, Belfry Group are also re-wiring the shared areas of tower block to ensure conformity with current regulations, in addition to supplying each of the tenants with a new handpicked electric fire and surround.

The new heating system is expected to reduce CO2 emissions from 160,000kg to 69,000kg. Importantly for the residents, energy bills will fall and space will be gained by removing individual boilers.
